Academic Mission
The special mission of Ryerson University is the advancement of applied knowledge and research to address societal need, and the provision of programs of study that provide a balance between theory and application and that prepare students for careers in professional and quasi-professional fields.

Academic and student services

First-year student programs
Chart Your Course is a full year orientation program offered to all first year students, providing a series of workshops in three segments: 1) pre-orientation: July and August; 2) orientation: last week of August, 3) fall and winter term program that ends in April. Students enhance their skills in academic areas and personal development. The Chart Your Course passport acts as a working document and students earn a stamp for every workshop they attend. Upon completing the program, students receive a certificate and qualify for the Leadership Development Program.
Housing
On-campus: Ryerson houses 840 students in three residences; the majority are single rooms. Priority for admission to residence is given to first-year students coming directly from high school, whose permanent address is the furthest distance from Toronto. Annual costs: room, $3,360 - $6,464. Meal plan is $1,775 - $2,795.
Off-campus: Ryerson operates an off-campus housing registry which lists available accommodation as well as tips for renting. Price range: bachelor and one bedroom, $750+; two bedroom, $1,200+; room in home, $650+.
Information technology
Each student is given a computer account which includes access to the computer labs and an e-mail address. All rooms in residence are wired for Internet access. Students living off-campus have free remote access to the university network. |
