While the roots of Nipissing University extend back to the 1900's with the North Bay Normal School, Nipissing University College was formed in 1967 as an affiliate of Laurentian University. Nipissing University received its charter as an independent University in 1992. Today, Nipissing is proud to be a primarily undergraduate university with a reputation for excellence in teacher education, arts, science, business and nursing. Housing
On-campus: Nipissing offers accommodation for up to 1,007 students in
single-sex units. Four, five or six students share units. Fifteen percent of the housing units are townhouse-style and the remaining 85 percent of housing units are suite style. Ninety-five percent of all residence students receive a private single bedroom and approximately five percent are housed in double rooms. Meal plans are optional since all residence students have kitchens in their units. Over 55 percent of students living in residence are first-year. First-year students coming directly from high school are guaranteed residence accommodation provided they meet the deadlines and the specified overall final GPA for full-time admission. All other students are selected on a lottery basis. Annual cost ranges from $2,500 to $3,950.
Off-campus: The student residence office maintains an off-campus housing list and website to assist students in their off-campus housing searches. Prices: room, $325 - $374/month; room and board, $425 - $475/month; bachelor, $375 - $450/ month; one-bedroom, $375 - $450/month; two-bedroom, $500 - $650/month; three-bedroom+, $600+/month.
Information technology
Students are provided with computer accounts which give them full Internet access, including e-mail. Free dial-in access is available for students living off-campus. A laptop program with on-campus support is available to the education program. All the main campus buildings, including the library, offer wireless access for laptop connections. The rooms in residence are completely wired for Internet and e-mail access. Computer labs are available utilizing the latest in Windows OS and productivity tools, as well as class-specific instructional software. |
