Overview
Lakehead University is located in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, (population 117,000) at the head of Lake Superior. Our faculty, staff, programs and services team up to provide an extensive range of learning choices and alternatives, offering an unbeatable combination of quality education at one of the most beautiful campuses in Canada. Fieldwork complements the academic component of many Lakehead programs. Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism; Forestry; Environmental Studies; Geology; Biology and Geography, have been designed to take advantage of, the natural laboratories of Northwestern Ontario. Northern socio-economic issues are addressed in such programs as Sociology, Commerce, Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, Indigenous Learning and Teacher Education. Lakehead's Engineering program is unique in Canada, combining a diploma program in Engineering Technology with a Bachelor of Engineering degree program.

Housing
On-campus: There are 1,221 spaces available for student residents. High school students who are offered admission to Lakehead University in June will receive a residence room offer in their admission package. All other beds are allocated by lottery. There are three dormitory-style residences (two co-ed and one co-ed by wing). Townhouses and apartments provide single rooms in four-bedroom units. Meal plans are mandatory for students living in the dormitory-style buildings. Annual costs (including fees): dormitories room and board, $7,683 (single); $7,138 (basic single); $6,734 (double); townhouse (room only), $5,120; apartment (room only), $5,145.
Off-campus: Housing is readily available in townhouses and apartments within walking distance of the university as well as throughout the city. Prices range from $350 - $600/month (room), $475 - $600 (room and board), $380 - $750 (one-bedroom), $740 - $825 (two-bedroom), $650 - $1,125 (three-bedroom) and $600 - $1,500 (house).
Information technology
Computer accounts, including a lifelong web e-mail account, are available free to all students, thus providing access to the Internet, printing and computer applications. Internet Cafés providing e-mail and web access are available in central locations throughout the campus. Internet, network and telephone access are available through a single cable as a result of Internet Protocol telephony. All residence rooms are wired. Students living off campus have remote access to campus computing services through a web browser. Workstations are located in central labs and departmental labs. The central computer labs are open 24 hours a days during the fall and winter terms. High Performance Computing accounts and access to the Virtual Reality environment is available to students through the request of their professor. |
