A small university with a reputation for innovative education and creative learning approaches, Mount Saint Vincent University educates the leaders of tomorrow. More than 4,500 women and men from across Canada and around the globe take advantage of the university’s programs and unique sense of community through on-campus classes, or at a distance via multi-mode delivery, including the Internet.
MSVU is known for its small classes, distinctive programs, access to high-quality faculty members, and opportunities to be involved in research and community service. MSVU also has the highest percentage of female students and faculty among Canadian universities, reflecting the university’s long-standing tradition of educating women.
MSVU places a strong emphasis on teaching excellence, which, when combined with small class sizes, provides a dynamic learning environment for students. The university has 360 full- and part-time faculty members and a student-to-faculty ratio of 19:1, which is one of the lowest in Canada. Faculty members are also active in research; currently, 15 percent of full-time faculty members hold national research awards in the areas of science, health, social sciences, and humanities.
Building the best minds of tomorrow by building a better campus today is a top priority for MSVU. The university has begun an exciting campus expansion that is expected to bring leading-edge research space and increase the number of classrooms by 50 percent. Over the next several years, the campus expansion will result in more labs, classrooms, research facilities, residence buildings, and recreational facilities.
MSVU is forging new partnerships locally, nationally, and internationally, and continues to develop its relationship with the international community through new educational partnerships with institutions from around the globe.
MSVU offers 35 undergraduate degrees in liberal arts and sciences and an array of professional programs including Applied Human Nutrition, Business Administration, Child and Youth Study, Education, Family Studies and Gerontology, Information Technology, Public Relations, and Tourism and Hospitality Management. Co-operative education is offered in five of these professional programs. In addition, 13 graduate programs build on and enhance undergraduate program strengths. The university is committed to providing accessible education through its innovative distance learning and continuing education programs. As a regional leader, MSVU offers more than 150 credit courses and 13 complete programs via various creative technologies, including television and the Internet.

Student assistance
Over the last few years, MSVU has doubled the amount of money that goes to students through scholarships and bursaries and introduced an entrance bursary program. Students coming directly from high school are automaticalloy considered for Entrance Scholarships as long as their admissions application is received by March 15. MSVU entrance scholarships are offered to high school students in the top five percent of their graduating class and are worth $16,000 to $32,000 over four years. Merit scholarships worth $1,000 to $3,000 are offered as annual award based on academics. In Course Awards are also available to students on the basis of academic achievement at MSVU.
Bursaries are based on financial need. New full-time students from high school or transfer students may be eligible for an Entrance Bursary ranging from $200 to $4,000. Each year MSVU commits $447,000 to our bursary program and this is just one of our ways to help students finance their education. In recent years, 98 percent of those who applied for bursaries received funding. In addition to many job opportunities on campus, the university offers meaningful and career related work experience on campus to students who demonstrate financial need through MSVU’s Student Works program. This program runs through the school year and during the summer months.
