About St. Thomas University

Welcome to St. Thomas University.

If you are a member of the St. Thomas community, as a student, alumnus, faculty, staff or a friend of the University, we hope you will find our site informative and useful. The Humanities and Social Sciences are compatible with our society’s use of technology – in fact, the use of the Internet is greatly enhancing the study of the liberal arts. It is a useful tool to connect the world.

If you are considering joining us as a student, we hope you will take time to explore our site.

  • Essential topics to making an informed decision have been organized under Future Students.
  • For more information on our programmes in Arts, Applied Arts, Social Work and Education, please visit Programmes.
  • To find out more about a particular liberal arts discipline, please visit, Academic Departments.
  • Our Student Services are ranked among the best in the country.
  • St. Thomas devotes more of its operating budget to student scholarships and bursaries than any other university in the region. In fact, more than half of first-year students hold an entrance scholarship, and one in eight of these students holds a renewable scholarship ranging in value from $2,000 to $48,000. Canadian applicants with an admission average of 80% or higher are guaranteed a scholarship.

As you discover more about St. Thomas, you will see why student satisfaction is consistently high. In the 2004 Maclean’s Magazine survey of Graduates (46 universities in Canada), our graduates gave St. Thomas University very high marks for the quality of their educational experience:

  • St. Thomas ranked in the top half of all surveyed categories
  • St. Thomas ranked 3 rd nationally for total learning environment
  • St. Thomas ranked 2 nd nationally for graduates who would recommend the university to a friend or relative

St. Thomas University has a long and proud history and a great institutional sense of purpose that is encapsulated in the goals and value of a liberal education:

Recreation and Athletics

Designed to meet the varied interest of today's exercise-conscious student, St. Thomas University's athletics programme reflects our concerns for the needs of the individual. The programme is organized for both men and women on the varsity, intramural and sport club levels.

With an enrolment of approximately 2800 full-time students, St. Thomas is small enough to respond to you as an individual. We are committed to educating the entire person and athletic activities are an integral part of student life at the University. Federated with the University of New Brunswick, St. Thomas offers you the same athletic facilities available at larger institutions.

To students who are highly skilled in sport areas, the athletic programs offer an opportunity to participate at a level of competition suitable to their abilities. Personal commitment is requisite to successful participation in these athletic programs.

The St. Thomas men's and women’s ice hockey teams compete in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) and the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS).

Basketball (M&W), soccer (M&W), and volleyball (M&W) compete in the Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA) and the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA). Rugby (M&W) compete in the an organized club league.
