The School of Physiotherapy at Dalhousie University
invites applications for the position of Director. This
five-year term position is expected to commence July
1, 2006 and may be renewed for a second five-year term.
The Directorship is a tenure stream position at the
rank of Associate or Full Professor depending on qualifications.
The
School of Physiotherapy holds an influential position
in Atlantic Canada as the only physiotherapy program
in region. The School is transitioning to a new curriculum
for an entry-to-practice M.Sc. (Physiotherapy) with
the first intake of students for the new program expected
in September 2006. The School also offers a research-based
M.Sc. (Rehabilitation Science – Physiotherapy)
program with regional, national and international linkages.
The
School is seeking a dynamic individual to lead this
exciting transition and advance the School towards its
three strategic directions: 1) enhance educational and
research programs, 2) achieve recognition as a valued
voice in discussions and decision-making about health
and 3) increase resources to support the success and
vitality of the School.
The
Director reports to the Dean of the Faculty of Health
Professions and will oversee the implementation of the
new M.Sc. (Physiotherapy) program, program assessment
and accreditation, as well as research, faculty development
and evaluation, human resource and fiscal management.
The Director will also contribute to teaching and research.
The
ideal candidate must have a doctorate degree and be
eligible for licensure as a physiotherapist in Nova
Scotia. He/she should be able to demonstrate excellence
in teaching, research and scholarship and show clear
evidence of administrative success and an ability to
promote innovation within a professional school. Diplomatic
skills, a creative and entrepreneurial spirit, a demonstrated
interest in collaborating with people of other disciplines
and backgrounds; a desire to facilitate the work of
others, integrity, sound judgment, and a sense of fairness
are all important personal qualities of the new Director.

Director will offer a demonstrated commitment to and
a sophisticated understanding of issues affecting the
academic achievement of students, faculty and staff
from diverse backgrounds. Halifax is a small, international,
historic city located on the Atlantic Ocean, with substantial
lifestyle advantages such as music, theatre, festivals,
ocean beaches, hiking, camping, rowing, fishing and
whale watching. Dalhousie University is located in the
heart of vibrant Halifax, Nova Scotia, and in close
proximity to teaching hospitals and major government
laboratories.
