are invited for the position of Assistant Dean, Midwifery
Education Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster
University.
The Assistant Dean is a senior academic leader who is
responsible for the planning, development, implementation
and evaluation of the Midwifery Education Program. The
Midwifery Education Program operates within a consortium
of McMaster, Ryerson and Laurentian Universities.
The Assistant Dean serves as Director of the consortium
program and carries out responsibilities in conjunction
with the program directors at the other sites, as well
as within McMaster. Specific responsibilities include:
Provide administrative leadership in the operation of
the program including the development of effective administrative
and committee structures to support the program; Provide
academic leadership to the program by spearheading the
development of innovative approaches to collaborative
education ventures, and new educational initiatives
in response to changes in the midwifery profession;
Oversee the ongoing development, implementation and
evaluation of the midwifery education program and the
ongoing refinement of curricula to ensure the program
meets its educational objectives; Work with the Associate
Dean, Education and consortium partners to obtain and
allocate resources effectively for operation of the
program; Liaise with appropriate departments, programs
and faculties within the university, with consortium
partners and clinical learning sites; Represent the
Midwifery Education Program and the midwifery consortium
to internal and external groups, institutions and clinical
agencies; Provide mentorship to students, faculty and
staff within the program and the consortium; Facilitate
educational research, development and evaluation in
the program and in relation to other programs, as appropriate;
Participate as a member of faculty and university committees
as required. Reporting to the Associate Dean, Education,
Faculty of Health Sciences, this is a five year appointment,
renewable upon favorable review and continued funding,
with a start date of July 1, 2006.
Candidates must have advanced preparation in midwifery
or a midwifery related field and be registered/eligible
to register as a midwife in Ontario. Electronic applications
